2022 Golf Outing

The 29th Golf Outing has already been scheduled

We have something new this year. The Alumni Association has set up an online form to register for the Golf outing, offer to donate prizes or sponsor a T-sign. The page is/was located on the web site and was linked in all emails promoting the outing.

Due to renovations at the Radisson, we were not able to secure a hotel for any Friday events. Additionally due to the Jeep Rally in Butler, Strawberry Days and SRU adding an Alumni Weekend the same weekend, hotel rooms are both scarce and expensive.

We will be setting up foursomes, organizing the closest to the pin winnings, and will be in charge of all aspects of the outing. We will also have and be selling tickets to our usual Saturday 50/50 raffle.

Costs have escalated for dinner after the outing as well and the Board has chosen to eliminate the steak option this year, due to cost and has replaced it with either a chicken or 2 burger option both for $15.00 with sides.

To make things easier, attendees will be able to register and then just bring cash to the event to pay for their meal.

T signs will again be available for sponsorship.  We hope to exceed 18 this year.  All proceeds benefit the Helping Hand Scholarship Fund that exclusively benefits undergraduate Theta Chi brothers in need.

For those who have yet to sponsor a tee sign for the outing, please advise Logan Tupper logan.tupper@outlook.com at as to how many you want and what you would like the sign to say.

Looking forward to a great outing. See you there!!

2020 Golf Outing

Wow, a lot has changed in the World since my last newsletter back on New Year’s Day. Hopefully, everyone has stayed safe during these uncertain times. As of today, the plans are to move forward with the 28th annual Theta Chi- Zeta Alpha Chapter Alumni Golf Outing on June 13. I spoke with John Kerins from Tam O’ Shanter’s golf course yesterday. His family’s business has been hit hard from this shutdown. The state of Pennsylvania has not considered golf as an essential service, so all golf courses including Tam O’Shanter have been closed for over a month. John foresee their business opening soon and is looking forward to hosting our group on June 13. Our group is still penciled in to have a shotgun start at 9:00AM sharp with a scramble style tournament. More details about golfing to come as we move forward.

As for the after-golfing dinner, we are still on the fence on offering this event. We will have to monitor the situation and will need to determine what the State’s guidelines are for gatherings within the patio section where dinner is normally served. If we are unable to offer dinner this year, we will still have our award ceremony. When I talked to John K. yesterday, I mentioned we would like to have the award ceremony in the grassy area outside the club house this year.

In addition to the golf outing, brother Patrick Russell is coordinating the Tee Signs for this year’s event. As we did last year, you may place anything on the sign you wish. Contributions towards the Tee Signs will go towards the Helping Hand Scholarship Fund. Contributions of $100 or more will be awarded a tee sign at the outing. For more information contact Brother Patrick Russel – patrickrussell2906@gmail.com Please contact Pat by May 15th if interested in buying a Tee Sign.

Once you have emailed Brother Patrick, to purchase a T-sign send a check for $100 made out to:

THETA CHI ZETA ALPHA ALUMNI ASSOCIATION.
Mail to:
Treasurer John Farrar
11801 Riverpark Way
Chesterfield, VA 23838.

I still need to contact the Park Inn by Radisson about our group reservations for hotel rooms that I made back in January, for Friday and Saturday night of the outing weekend. I have not been contacted by the Radisson about them cancelling the rooms that we have reserved. There was a new contact person at the Park Inn this year for golf groups, Elizabeth Grove and she was able to keep the price of the rooms the same as last year ($115.00) when I last spoke to her. The phone number is 724-528-2306 for making reservations.
I do apologize that this is very brief and does not have many details, but I wanted to keep everyone informed on the current plans to move forward and have the golf outing in June. I will be sending another newsletter out in a few weeks regarding other possible events for the outing. Thank you.

If you have any questions about the outing. Please contact me via email at- jssuprano@juno.com or text/call my cell at 412-592-6156. If your having problems with my current email address, here is an alternative – jssuprano@icloud.com.

2019 Golf Outing

Spring has finally arrived, and hopefully everyone has made plans to attend this year’s golf outing on June 8. The 27th addition of the Zeta Alpha Alumni Chapter of Theta Chi- Golf Outing will be held at Tam O’ Shanter’s in Hermitage PA., right off Interstate 80. I recently talked to John Kerins at the course and confirmed our group does have a shotgun start again this year. This will require everyone to be at the course at 8:30AM on Saturday morning. The 8:30AM arrival time is required so you can pay for golf, verify team assignment, and we can provide everyone with their hole assignment. Everyone will need to be at their hole assignment location at 9:00AM sharp. Golfing will be a scramble style. The price of golfing is $42.00 which includes cart. The same price as last year.

Please let Brother Joe Suprano know if you plan on golfing and with whom. If you are not golfing with a specific person or foursome, he can find a group or person you can golf with. If you do inform him that you plan on golfing with a specific group or foursome, please confirm with that person or group that you plan on golfing with them. Last year, he had some conflicting information on who was golfing with who, and had to make several changes to some foursomes the morning of the outing.

As always, golfing is not required to attend this fun day event. Many come to just be part of the roving gallery, clubhouse gang, or join us for the after-golf steak dinner held on the patio section at Tam O’ Shanter.

After golfing, the award ceremony should begin between 2:30-3:15, depending if we don’t have any lost golfers this year. Individual monetary prizes are handed out for closest to the Pin (3), and longest drive. Donated gift prizes will be handed out to those teams who had the best round for the day.

Dinner will soon begin after the award ceremony and group photo has been taken. The cookout started around 3:30 pm last year (could be a little earlier this year). The cost of the steak dinner did not increase from last year. Therefore, Brother Joe will be asking for $25.00 like last year, for those who plan on enjoying the Steak dinner. The Steak Cookout dinner consist off a 12oz NY Strip sirloin steak, roasted potato, buttered corn, and Italian bread, the price also includes beer, soda or bottled water, sales tax, and gratuity. A chicken dinner is also available to those who prefer a different option, you need to notify Joe of this option when sending your check if you do not want steak. he will start accepting check for the steak dinner beginning March 31, 2019. We are committed towards the number of dinner’s we order as a group, and that is why money is requested up front. Please make the checkout to Joseph Suprano and mail to.
(Steak/Chicken dinner orders Only)

Joseph Suprano
641 Kelso Road
Pittsburgh, PA. 15243

FYI- On a sad note regarding the cookout, William “Larry” Johnson passed away on March 10. Larry was the older gentlemen who cooked the steaks for Tam’s. Larry was always accommodating to our group and he will be truly missed when that grill is fired up this June for our BBQ. Larry worked for Tam’s over 9 years and worked at the GM-Lordstown plant for 40 years prior to that.

As mentioned in a March 4th Zeta Alpha Alumni Newsletter, the Alumni Association is having a fund-raising event during Saturday’s golfing. The Alumni Association will be raising money through Brotherhood Golf Tee signs. Each hole will have 2 or more tee signs sponsors. The sign can be sponsored by your golfing foursome, your business, or with a personal saying. Each sign is approximately the size of a political campaign lawn sign. It can include a, business logo, family photo or a past college day photo. The cost is $100.00 per sign per hole. The money raised will go towards the Alumni Association to eventually support the Chapter. All money will be due by April 28 if purchasing a sign. Please send your check if purchasing a sign, and what you want on it made out to ZA Chapter Alumni Chapter of Theta Chi, to the following address:

(For Sign Purchases ONLY)
John Farrar
11801 Riverpark Way
Chesterfield, VA. 23838

Please contact Gary SABOO Sablowsky 412-692-0403 (cell) sabooisajew@yahoo.com if you have any further questions regarding the Brotherhood Golf Tee signs.

In addition, we have made this annual gathering now a 2-day event. Brother Jim Clarke has secured us tee times at the Grove City Golf course for a warmup-golf event on Friday afternoon, June 7. Jim was able to get a least 16 spots for the Friday event. So, it will be best to contact Jim if you plan on golfing that Friday. Please contact Jim at: jclarke@equitylendinggroup.com or 412-527-1728 (cell) if want to join this event.

For those who want to stay overnight for both June 7 & 8 (or only one night), Brother Joe has made a Group Room Reservation agreement with the Park Inn by Radisson. The Park Inn has guaranteed us a block of rooms for both June 7 & 8. The hotel is located down the street from the golf course, and right off Interstate 80 also. Currently, the contract for the price of the rooms will be the same as last year ($115.00). The room types are double or king. Please contact Brenda Stefanski-Hoffman at her direct number, 724-906-6150 for room reservations, and say you’re with the Theta Chi Golf Group. If she is unavailable, you can also call the front desk, 724-528-2306 for making reservations.

If you have any questions about the outing. You can contact Brother Joe via email at: jssuprano@juno.com or text/call my cell at 412-592-6156.
