ZA Theta Chi Chapter History

The original group members of our fraternity were from the VET’s club, and also a small local fraternity.

Our original Faculty adviser was Doctor Hawkins, a sociology professor.

At the time of our fraternity’s installation, the President was Chuck Shiring and the Vice President was Jim Warden. Our house was located then at 328 South Main Street. It had been the law offices of a Slippery Rock attorney named Bouch. It was rented by us, but the national chapter held the lease.  In 1967, Bouch had decided that we weren’t such bad tenets  and actually expanded the place with a big party room, with 3 large bedrooms below it.

Our Fraternity then moved to 343 Normal Avenue. It was located across the street from the Newman Center.

Thanks to the Slippery Rock University ROCKET newspaper we have been able to pull together some history of the Zeta Alpha Chapter form 1964 to 1989 from pinning’s, to Greek week and intramural competition to our last days.  The articles are PDF files and though you may not wish to read them all we imagine you may be interested in ones when you were a brother at the Rock.  It does provide an interesting insight into who we were.  The articles have been listed chronologically with the oldest first.
