The 2019 Executive Board Members attended the Theta Chi Training Conferences the January 4-6, 2019 in Indianapolis and had a chance to vist the International headquarters.

Stand up to Harvard with us by signing the petition at www.standuptoharvard.org – Students on campuses across the country can celebrate a victory as their rights were affirmed with the successful conclusion of a pair of lawsuits filed by sororities, fraternities and individual students challenging a Harvard sanctions policy that punished students who belong to off-campus, single-sex social organizations. The case has been settled on undisclosed terms.

January 19, 2019 the 2019 Executive Board met with our CAB to discuss the past, present, and future of the chapter. The day consisted of break out sessions, large group instruction, and lunch. Our CAB came in from as far as Allentown, PA and some as close as Slippery Rock. We thank them for all the support they have given us.

It’s the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Brother Marshall Tuten was recently recognized as the JoAnn Day Business Student of the Year by the Pennsylvania Association of Colleges and Employers in January. We wish to congratulate Brother Marshall. But my reason for pointing this out is that the article that was published February 11, 2019 in the SRU Rocket was picked up by Theta Chi International and was published on the Theta Chi website including the interview conducted with Brother Marshall. In addition to an impressive interview, what is exciting about the interview is, of all the things Marshall could have chosen to dress in for the interview that day, he chose to wear and proudly display his Theta Chi letters. Congratulations Marshall we are proud of you and your accomplishments and how you represent the Zeta Alpha Chapter of Theta Chi. Here is a link to the article and the video.

Over the weekend of January 26, 2019 our President Eric, Vice-President Brody, and IFC Treasurer Francisco attended a Greek Leadership Training held by the 3 councils at Slippery Rock. All of the chapter’s presidents, vice presidents, and members of IFC/NPC/NPHC participated in a day long training focusing on Greek Life, Leadership, Burnout, and bettering our greek community. They had a great time and gained a lot of knowledge on how to better our fraternity and Greek life as a whole. Special thanks to all the chapter leaders, Jayne Piskorik, Matt Lerman, and all of the guest speakers and participants!

On February 16 the Brother of Zeta Alpha attended Theta Chi University at the University of maryland. The 16 brothers who attended was the largest delegation at the event.

The Spring 2019 Rush schedule.

Congratulations to Steven Abbott, Seth Barnett, Aaron Swoger and Erik Warmbein, on signing their bids with Theta Chi Fraternity.

Alumni President Doug Bull calls in to Chapter meeting

Alumni President Doug Bull had the opportunity to speak to the Zeta Alpha Chapter Executive Board on February 5, 2019. We asked if he would attend their meeting via conference call and share some of the activities of the Alumni Board and ask questions and discuss how they could participate in activities such as the golf outing and invite alumni to participate in pledge class initiation ceremonies.

Over the weekend on February 9, 2019 – 6 of our brothers participated in St.Jude Up Til Two event on campus, three brothers volunteered. Slippery Rock University was able to raise $68,767 dollars during this event which will be donated to St.Jude’s research hospital. Well done gentlemen. Graduation Day 2019 for members of the Charter class of Zeta Alpha!

The 27th Annual ZA Golf outing took place at Tam O’Shanter golf course on June 8th. We had the third highest attended golf outing in the history of the event. In total we had over 63 brothers attend the event. This included 11 current or recently graduated brothers. This is the part that is really special about the outing. The new brothers are getting involved and want to continue the efforts we started 27 years ago. Included in this year’s event was free hot dog, chips and beer/soft drink for allparticipants. The Alumni Board received many compliments on this action. This was sponsored and paid for by the Alumni Corporation and one we hope to continue for future outings.

Another first at this year’s event was encouraging brothers to sponsor Tee signs. And for a first time try, we were able to find sponsors for a total of 17 Tee signs. This action, plus the selling of raffle tickets and other donations, resulted in $2,000 donated to the Helping Hand Scholarship fund. Brothers in attendance made many positive comments on the Tee signs and said they would like to be involved next year. The Board’s goal for next year’s Golf Outing is to sell a total of 36 Tee signs, 2 per hole, to continue our fund raising efforts. The signs purchased are included at the end of this newsletter.

A bit of a surprise for the Alumni Brothers was a special presentation made by Chapter President Eric Lehman with the assistance of Chapter Vice President Brody McKenna. After the golf awards presentation President Eric presented to the 44 Alumni Brothers in attendance Silver Legion Award Certificates for membership in Theta Chi for at least 25 years. Each of the certificates presented were personalized with the brothers name and initiation date and signed by the International President. In addition 7 Golden Guard Award Certificates were presented to Alumni Brothers Baronetski, Bohn, Hannon, Johns, Kuntz, McMahon and Smith for 50 years of service to Theta Chi.

To continue to improve the Golf Outing, the on ZA Chapter brothers with the cooperation of the Alumni Board will hold a totally free Hot Dog, Hamburger, Soda/Beer event the Friday night before the 28th annual golf outing. All brothers and their spouses are invited. This event will be totally funded by the Chapter and the Alumni Board. Brother John Farrar has already volunteered to be the Head Cook and Chef for the evening.

As you can see cooperation, coordination and activities at the annual golf outing continue to improve on all fronts and we appreciate everyone’s involvement and for those who could not attend this year we look forward to seeing you next year!

Below are pictures of the T-signs and pictures from the outing!

Below are pictures from the outing.

In July Brother Cooper Collins (5th from the left) attended the Initiative Academy in Bloomington, IN and while there was presented with the Chapter Excellence Award presented to the Zeta Alpha Chapter for thier efforts in the Fall of 208 and the Spring of 2019!

Presented so far to only 20 of the 160 chapter in Theta Chi Fraternity recognizing strong performance in specific areas of chapter operations. For a chapter barely a year old, we all should be very proud of their efforts. Hopefully the chapter will redouble their efforts this year and will have the chance to stand on stage in Lexington and be a serious contender for the Alter Award!

Our Brother, Mackenzie Bestine, will be joining the United States Marine Corps. He will be completing an approximate of 32 weeks of training. His intentions are to come back to Slippery Rock in the fall of 2020. Best of luck to Mack in all of his adventures. We will miss you!

Our brothers and sweethearts loved getting out yesterday and helping with freshmen move in! We’re always here to lend a helping hand whenever you need it!

Involvement Fair Day! Come by and say hi!

Last Friday, September 13th, Brother Dillon Pusateri contracted into the US Army with a minimum obligation of 4 years active duty and 4 years reserves after his future commissioning as an officer. On top of this accomplishment, he was also awarded a 3 year ROTC scholarship. Thanks for everything you do for our fraternity and, more importantly, your service to our country. Congrats, Brother!

We will see you next year @srupikapps Might be the same result, but we will have to see! Shoutout to the girls of Alpha Xi Delta for an awesome event! Thank you!

This weekend, we had the privilege of presenting the winner of this years Theta Chi Helping Hand Scholarship. The scholarship is a testament to hard work in the classroom, involvement both at SRU and in our community, and overcoming adversity. This year we awarded the scholarship to Leah Hepner! Our alumni are fantastic and want to see brothers as well as other undergraduates succeed in many ways. Congratulations!

⭐️ National Hazing Prevention Week ⭐️

As September comes to an end our VPHS, Cooper, set up a Sacred Purpose activity regarding National Suicide Prevention Month. The brothers reflected on ways that we can help others. As suicide prevention and intervention is one of Theta Chi’s 7 Sacred Purpose initiatives, spreading awareness and knowing how to handle situations is a pillar to our brotherhood.

We had a great time seeing alumni during hHomecoming hosted by the Zeta Alpha Chapter!

Meet our Delta Pledge Class! 5 awesome gentlemen, about to embark on their Resolute Journey!

Congrats to these gentlemen on another successful @mts_at_sru Broadway Cabaret! #getinvolved #RushThetaChi.

Five of our brothers participated in the St. Jude Up Til 2 No More Cancer Rally! The brothers along with other fraternities and sororities on campus are standing up to childhood cancer by raising awareness and money.

This weekend, we helped the Alpha Omega Center by cleaning up their property in New Castle. We were taken on a tour of the non-profit center and educated on their everyday operations. We look forward to future events together!

Happy Thanksgiving from our family to yours! Safe travels, full stomachs, and family time! 🦃

Congratulations to our newly elected 2020 Executive Board! We would like to wish them the best of luck on leading the Zeta Alpha chapter for our 3rd year on the Slippery Rocks campus. At this time we also want to recognize the past Executive Board and Chairman for all their efforts during last years term. Congratulations to everyone!
